Ideas and Reasons for Eating in Season
So gross indeed. I have been researching all the meat we eat in the last two years and it has made such a difference in our diets.
I agree - knowing where meat comes from has really, really changed our eating habits. Thanks for stopping by.
We buy our meat direct from a local rancher. I can't imagine buying meat from a chain anymore.
My father did not understand us buying a side of beef earlier this year. "Why not just go to Costco?" Sigh. Something tells me even the supposedly all-holy Costco may not even be above this... and how someone can think a local, organic, small-scale-operation, pastured beef is below Costco (and cheaper too!!!)... I don't know. But, I mentioned the "pink slime" issue to him yesterday, and his response? "Well, it's not in the beef we eat." Um.... HOW DO YOU KNOW!? I bang my head against the wall. SIGH.
All you can do Jessika is mention it, one day we will on be on board. We have been buying beef from our High School's Ag club. It is delicious pasture beef at a great price.
We buy the Laura's lean beef at Kroger and I told my husband the other night that it smells and tastes bad considering how much it costs. Anybody know about Trader Joe's beef? We try to stock up on their beefwhen we can.
