Salads and a Give Away!!!

Big bowl of arugula with anchovies :)

As Spring warms up toward summer the greens in the garden are starting to pop. I have been trying to make a habit of eating a big salad each day for lunch.

Right about the time I started this habit, OXO contacted me to test out their Good Grips Salad Dressing Shaker. It is part of their Healthy Eating Tools series. I had been in the habit of just drizzling a little olive oil with lemon juice or vinegar on my salad, but decided to give this a try.

For me the biggest thing I was looking for was was this tool more useful then the billion and half mason jars I keep around. In general, OXO is my go-to company for kitchen goods. I love that their items are inexpensive, strong and always useful! Their mandoline is probably one of my favorite tools in the kitchen.

I admit I wasn't sure I was going to really need a salad dressing shaker.

Turns out, I was wrong. What I like the best about the shaker is that I can make up a whole jar of balsamic vinegrette rather then a little bit at a time. This made it that much easier to whip up a salad each day, helping me stick to my healthy habit. It is also far easier to pour from then the mason jar. Another bonus, the shaker travels well. I threw it into a bag with a salad when we headed out to a potluck. It never leaked!

I have another Good Grip Salad Dressing Shaker to give away to a Farmer Jo reader! Just in time for Summer!

  1. Wow! What a neat item. There's this molasses/sesame seed/vinaigrette that I love, but I don't make often enough... because I don't have a good bottle for it! This would totally change things (I hope-- and we have salad coming in the garden soon!).

    1. Would you be willing to share that dressing? Sounds great! Thanks for entering.

    2. I'll have to find the original (I tweak it all the time and kind of throw things in). But, I have been meaning to share this link: Too much goodness in one place! My goal this summer? Work through these recipes with homegrown greens!

    3. Here's the one I was talking about:
      1/2 cup olive oil
      1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
1/4 cup sugar (+/- to taste)
      2 tablespoons sesame seeds
      2 tablespoons poppy seeds
      1 teaspoon almond extract
      1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
      1/2 teaspoon paprika

Blend all dressing ingredients except seeds until smooth. Add seeds and briefly blend until mixed

  2. (oh, and jessikap (at) gmail (dot) com :)

  3. Thanks for the giveaway! I am a follower. My favorite salad right now is grilled chicken cobb salad (greens from our yard, hard boiled egg, bacon, blue cheese, avocado, green pepper, and grilled chicken). I usually just add a bit of olive oil and balsamic vinegar to whatever salad I'm eating, but this little gadget may just change that:)

  4. My husband makes the best balsamic vinaigrette dressing.

I'm a follower (musingsbyjacquelyn at cox dot net)

  5. I follow! Is your contest open to Canadians? If so I will tell you that my favourite salad is the Nutty Irishman at a local pub. If I am making my own salad my favourite is one that I make with spinach, mandarin oranges and a hot bacon dressing.

my email is prairireknitwit AT gmail...

    1. I am not sure about Cananda, i will check! Tell me more about the Nutty Irishman salad. It sounds intriguing

  6. I am boring :) my favorite dressing is Catalina :)

  7. My favorite salad dressing is lemon vinagrette.

Email address is in my Blogger profile (I don't want to leave it in a comment because spammer bots can easily grab it that way).
