An Apology

I am very sorry, good neighbors of my mother-in-law, for "accidentally" taking home 2 (TWO!) boxes full of citrus from your fine trees. It is a problem. I saw trees literally dripping and dropping lemons, grapefruits, and tangerines onto alleys and sidewalks. I could not walk by without picking one up, then another, and then...look, another lemon on the ground. Is that a meyer lemon? A 2 pound grapefruit just sitting here!?? My pockets would be weighed down after each of my daily walks. It was an accident, really.

I would have asked permission, I swear. But, I never saw anyone outside due to the weather. It was rainy for an Arizonian, but not me. I am waterproof due to being a native Oregonian.

You can see my problem. I love fruit trees and I have never, ever seen so much citrus in one place. Within a mile of my MIL's house there were at least 20 different kinds of citrus. I was in heaven.

So, um, sorry.
On the plus side, lots of citrus recipes are coming up!

    I have eaten
    the plums
    that were in
    the icebox

    and which
    you were probably
    saving
    for breakfast

    Forgive me
    they were delicious
    so sweet
    and so cold

(Just had to post this -- it's one of my favorite poems, and your post reminded me of it).

  3. You must have been in my neighborhood (Arcadia)! We have TONS of citrus growing nearby. Sadly most people don't use it, so I am sure they didn't mind you picking a few juicy gems ;)
